Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program – Benjamin’s Video Review
In this video, Benjamin explains how the dual diagnosis treatment program works at Sovereign Health Group and how it aided his recovery. Benjamin was using methamphetamines and was beginning to experiment with heroin when he lost his job and girlfriend at the same time. He was concurrently struggling with depression and felt the need to change the way his life was going. Nervous upon arrival at Sovereign and coming down from the high of a three-day binge, Benjamin wanted to get clean and learn coping tools to help him live a sober life. The program at Sovereign more than met his expectations by helping him develop coping skills and tools for relapse-prevention.
Benjamin’s residence in the program resembled an apartment building, as opposed to the typical Sovereign houses. He enjoyed this aspect of the experience, feeling that it gave him privacy while providing the opportunity to bond with his housemates. He explains that he could not have asked for a better individual therapist and that they always had productive sessions together. Initially, Benjamin was hesitant to open up in group therapy, but he eventually did at the urging of his housemate. The sharing of his personal experiences was welcomed by the group and he felt better letting out his thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. Benjamin advises future clients that the first few days of treatment are crucial and to take the program one day at a time.*
