Sovereign Health of San Clemente is one of the few detox centers in the world that offers Nutritionally Assisted Detox (NAD). NAD therapy consists of daily intravenous infusions of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and micronutrients required for healthy brain and biological functioning. This unique form of detox alleviates patients’ symptoms, regulates stress levels, and improves mood and mental clarity.
Withdrawal symptoms are uncomfortable and can be life-threatening in some cases. Through medically supervised NAD therapy, many patients feel that they have fewer withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and an overall sense of well-being. NAD also treats the chronic malnutrition that often accompanies addiction, giving the body the tools it needs to begin the healing process. NAD allows patients to detox from alcohol naturally and stop using drugs without a long, painful withdrawal process.
NAD therapy is a form of natural detox that does not require general anesthesia or use any opiate receptor blockers but instead uses NAD supplements to ease the process of withdrawal. With NAD, the nutritional infusion reduces withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and/or drugs by 50 to 60 percent in the first three days, and by 70 to 80 percent by the fourth day. The intravenous infusion is given each day for three to 14 days and is followed by an oral maintenance formulation
How Does NAD Work?
NAD treatment for addiction is a combination of neurotransmitter restoration and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide used to ease patients through the withdrawal process. The infusion is a combination of essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids and micronutrients that are essential for the production of the coenzyme adenosine triphosphate, a molecule that carries energy throughout the cells of the body. Natural detox therapy speeds up the natural healing process by flooding the brain and body with essential nutrients.

What Should I Expect From NAD Detox Therapy?
At Sovereign Health, all patients going through detoxification are medically monitored around the clock. Our NAD program provides luxury accommodations in a scenic and confidential setting in San Clemente, California. A physician and his or her assistant conduct assessments and prescribe appropriate treatment formulations. The medically supervised NAD therapy program consists of both intravenous and oral NAD supplements administered by a registered nurse who also monitors the patients throughout the process.
Safety, comfort and healing are the primary goals of the detoxification process. NAD therapy is administered during the day at the treatment center. After the intravenous line is placed and the infusion begins, every effort is made to promote relaxation. Blankets, pillows, snacks and meals are provided to help ease the transition to recovery. Private rooms include a workspace for laptops and other electronics during infusion therapy, and free Wi-Fi service is available.
When the infusion is complete, transportation to the residential detox facility is provided. The entire detox team works around the clock to meet the special needs of people withdrawing from alcohol and drugs. As patients begin to feel better, many also benefit from supporting each other through the process.
How Long Does NAD Detox Therapy Take?
NAD therapy consists of 3-, 5-, 10- or 14-day NAD therapy sessions, depending on individual needs. NAD must be administered slowly and usually takes about eight hours a day. After this natural detox is complete, booster infusions are given every three months for the first year. Daily oral vitamin NAD supplements are also provided for one year.
Detoxification, whether done through NAD therapy or conventional medical detox, is only a first step in the recovery process. Patients who choose to stay for drug and/or alcohol rehabilitation have a greater chance of maintaining their sobriety in the long term. Underlying or co-occurring disorders can also be treated in rehabilitation and new lifestyle patterns can be developed. At Sovereign Health, we offer 30- to 90-day rehab programs, or even longer if needed.
