Staff Name: Malakiah Hammers
Location: Rancho San Diego
Title: Director of Education

Malakiah started her career in the education field in 1992, as an Administrative Assistant at a non-public school in Los Angeles. She stayed at Coutin School for twelve years. During those years she was in charge of each student’s Individualized Education Program and worked her way up to an Assistant Principal role, prior to her departure in 2004. After earning her BS in Human Services in 2003 and moving to San Diego in 2004, Malakiah became the School Director at Fred Finch Youth Center, a Dual Diagnosis facility specializing in adolescent treatment.

Malakiah continued her own educational path and earned an MS in Special Education in 2006 as well as an MFA in Literary Nonfiction in 2007. In 2011, Malakiah left the academic world to pursue another passion and is currently the co-owner of Broke Girls’ Coffee Bar (BGCB) in Normal Heights. After a successful year of operation and maintaining positive growth in its neighborhood, she felt the coffee shop could function without her physical presence; she hired part-time staff to work alongside her business partner and returned to work full time-joining the Sovereign Health family.
