Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Summer details her experience in the Sovereign Health Group Dual Diagnosis Program. She was using drugs and hit a low point. She wanted to come home, so she called her parents, who wanted her to go to rehab and told her about Sovereign Health. She has a long history of drug use, and both parents are recovering addicts. She began to drink and use marijuana around the age of 10, and her addiction escalated from there. Summer found Sovereign Health to be a really different rehab experience.

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the research arm of the United States Department of Defense, is funding two major research initiatives to create implantable electronic devices to monitor andtreat seven different psychiatric disorders, including addiction, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and chronic pain.

The DARPA  SUBNETS (Systems-Based Neurotechnology for Emerging Therapies) program has committed $12 million, plus an additional $26 million if performance benchmarks are met, to the projects, which will be led by research teams at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), respectively.

In the wake of the most recent mass killings, the deadly May 23 rampage of 22-year-old Elliot Rodger that claimed seven lives including his own has reopened public debate on how to prevent such acts of violence before they actually happen. Rodger, a former Santa Barbara City College student, stabbed his three roommates, students at University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), to death, then armed himself with three semi-automatic handguns and went on a shooting spree, killing three more people and wounding several others before apparently taking his own life.
