Eating disorders and comorbidity is the topic being presented at the mental health networking luncheon event being sponsored by Sovereign Health of California. Dr. Jennifer Johnson is the featured speaking for this luncheon and networking event. Clients in treatment for substance abuse and addiction frequently suffer from eating disorders, as well. Mood and anxiety disorders are common in eating disorders patients. This talk will explore the relationship between these conditions. It will discuss recognition of eating disorders and disordered eating in the treatment setting. Medical aspects of diagnosis, evaluation and management will be reviewed.
Comorbidity is either the presence of one or more disorders or diseases, besides the primary condition. Often times a dual diagnosis is needed to properly treat the eating disorder, and the underlying mental condition that is being manifested in the form of an eating disorder. There are a variety of different types of eating disorders that can be a problem for both men and women. Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, compulsive eating disorder, obesity and orthorexia are just a few of the different diagnoses for eating disorders.
