Treatment Programs Rancho San Diego

It’s a matter of trust

Sovereign Health Rancho San Diego is licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services for mental health treatment, in addition to treating substance abuse disorders, eating disorders and co-occurring conditions.

We are also accredited by the Joint Commission, a not-for-profit independent accreditation organization that certifies more than 20,500 U.S. health care organizations and programs.

Our team provides effective and modern treatment programs to give adolescent patients the best chance possible at a recovery that lasts. Using our years of experience in medicine, psychology and counseling, we tailor individual treatment plans for each patient to address his or her specific needs.

Mental health program

The mental health program at Ranch San Diego helps adolescents and teens struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, behavioral problems, brief psychotic disorder, schizoaffective disorder and more.

Self-harm, which is often indicative of an underlying mental health condition, is also addressed through the program. Situations and life events that can trigger mental health issues, including bullying, pressure at school and divorce, are taken into consideration and discussed in individual therapy sessions.

Substance abuse program

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reports marijuana, alcohol and prescription drugs are the most commonly abused substances by children aged 14 and under. The teen treatment center at Sovereign helps individuals struggling with the abuse of prescription drugs, stimulants, opioids, club drugs, inhalants, marijuana and/or alcohol.

Unlike many other substance abuse treatment facilities, Sovereign gets to the root of the issue to make treatment most effective and reduce the risk of relapse once an individual is out of the program and faced with old triggers.

Many individuals struggling with substance abuse are dealing with mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis treatment is the most effective approach in treating co-occurring substance abuse problems and mental health disorders. This facility recognizes the relationship between the two and specializes in dual diagnosis treatment for adolescents and teenagers.

Eating disorder program

Sovereign Health Rancho San Diego’s eating disorder program provides comprehensive behavioral health services to female adolescents with eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder are serious emotional and physical problems that involve extreme emotions, attitudes and behaviors regarding food and weight, according to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).

Left untreated, the extreme behaviors regarding food and weight associated with eating disorders can take a huge toll on an adolescent’s physical and mental health, sometimes leading to serious and life-threatening consequences.

At Sovereign, adolescents learn to reduce and eliminate harmful and unhealthy behaviors associated with eating disorders, address body image concerns and identify underlying causes contributing to their behavior.

A treatment team consisting of doctors, nutritionists, dietitians, psychologists and other clinical specialists supports young women as they overcome their eating disorder, embrace a new way of living and are empowered to regain control over their health and achieve long-term recovery.

Different forms of therapy

Sovereign incorporates evidence-based methods into its adolescent treatment programs. Each client partakes in individual and group therapy sessions, including those focused on:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Solution-focused therapy (SFT)
  • Psychodynamic therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)

These cognitive therapies are used in tandem with alternative therapies such as:

  • Equine therapy
  • Yoga
  • Art and music therapies

Many adolescents and teens find these components especially fulfilling and helpful in aiding their journey to recovery.

Family therapy is an integral part of the program at Sovereign, as families can make a difference in recovery lasting for many clients. Families need to heal after a mental health issue or substance abuse problem has placed strain on relationships.

For these reasons, loved ones are also encouraged to attend Family Weekends.
