One of the leading Palm Springs treatment centers, Sovereign Health of Palm Desert’s facility offers recovery in a quiet, warm desert setting at the foot of the beautiful San Joaquin range. Patients dealing with mental illness, substance abuse or a dual diagnosis can receive treatment while living a short distance outside of Los Angeles.

Detoxification program

The process of drugs leaving the body is known as detoxification. Drugs work by fundamentally altering how the brain’s messaging system works. After prolonged use, the brain rewires itself to need the drugs in order to function properly. When those harmful substances are no longer present in the system, the brain and body are thrown into chaos, and the patient experiences withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal’s severity and length depends on the substance used. Withdrawing from stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamines may mean a few weeks of insomnia, nervousness and the jitters. Meanwhile, opiate and alcohol withdrawal are justifiably infamous for their severity.

Sovereign offers medically monitored detoxification for patients seeking rehab in Palm Springs. We help our patients through this difficult process, ensuring they are both as safe – and comfortable – as possible.

Addiction treatment

Sovereign takes a holistic view of treatment, helping our patients mend in a comfortable setting. Our Palm Springs drug rehab center makes use of evidence-based, effective modalities to help our clients achieve a lasting recovery. Some of these methods include:

  • Group and family therapy
  • Anger management
  • Continuing care: Sovereign continues to work with its patients even after they leave our care

Dual diagnosis

Treating a dual diagnosis – the combination of substance and mental health disorders – is always a challenge. Sovereign is an expert dual diagnosis treatment provider because our holistic philosophy allows us to treat patients in both mind and body. Among the tools we use to treat dual diagnosis are:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): This is a form of talk therapy which teaches patients new ways of looking at themselves, the world and their problems. It also gives our patients tools to help them resist temptations and cravings.
  • Process group therapy: Patients meet in small groups to learn more about themselves and what they need to change in their lives – and in their relationships. It’s a fine tool that can help our patients patch up relationships that their illnesses may have helped damage.
  • Alternative therapies: Patients can engage in art therapy, equine therapy, meditation and yoga if they wish.

Mental health

Our Palm Desert facility doesn’t just treat addiction. We have a separate treatment track for mental illnesses. Patients in this program receive many of the same programs the other patients benefit from, with a focus on treating mental illness. Patients learn new ways of looking at the world and their problems.

Some of the illnesses we treat are:

  • Anxiety disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Panic disorder

PRIME Program

Palm Desert plays host to Sovereign Health’s new Personal Recovery Integrating Men’s Experiences (PRIME) program. The program is geared towards men aged 40 and up and provides specialized treatment for mental health and addiction disorders. Men in the PRIME program participate in a recovery community which helps them develop the tools for transition to a sober life.

Recovery in Palm Desert

Sovereign operates 10 treatment houses in the Palm Springs area, five of which have pools. We accept adult men and women aged 18 and older who need treatment for detoxification, addiction, mental health or dual diagnosis. Men and women are housed in different houses, and sleep two or three to a room. Typically, most of our patients spend between 30 and 90 days with us. Patients are driven between the houses and our treatment center in Palm Desert.
