Mental Health & Substance Use Treatment Los Angeles, California -

Treatment Programs Los Angeles

Sovereign Health of Los Angeles provides residential and intensive outpatient treatment for mental health issues, substance abuse disorders and co-occurring conditions. We offer medically supervised detox for patients who require it. Every patient receives a thorough assessment during intake. Our clinicians use this information to construct a recovery plan specific to the patient’s needs.

Mental health treatment

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) notes over 60 million Americans experience a mental illness in any given year. Of these, over 13 million live with a serious mental disorder such as schizophrenia, depression or bipolar disorder.

Sovereign Health treats an array of mental health conditions, including

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Panic disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

Diagnosing a mental health issue can be difficult. This is why we conduct such a thorough patient assessment during intake. This assessment provides the blueprint for the patient’s treatment regimen. Our clinicians pull from a variety of therapies and treatment modalities to build this individualized plan. As patients progress in treatment, their needs may change. Our Los Angeles treatment center clinicians and counselors adapt treatment to reflect the patient’s new reality.

Substance use disorders

Sovereign Health’s substance abuse treatment programs address the physical ravages of addiction and the psychological issues that fuel it. Depending upon the severity of the patient’s condition, he or she may need to detox before commencing treatment. We offer nutritionally assisted detox (NAD) to safely wean a patient from substances without having to introduce still more substances into his or her bloodstream.

Our treatment programs address a variety of addictions, including

  • Methamphetamines
  • Xanax
  • K2/spice
  • Club drugs
  • Other opiates
  • Prescription drugs
  • Marijuana
  • Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Alcohol

In recent years, the number of synthetic drugs on the street has nearly tripled. Substances vary, but addiction remains the same. We know that a person does not decide one day to become an addict or an alcoholic. The reasons why this happens are as complex as is the individual. Substance abuse treatment only succeeds if it can get to the root causes fueling the individual’s need to engage in self-destructive behavior.

Dual diagnosis treatment

Dual diagnosis, co-occurring or comorbid conditions present the ultimate chicken-or-the-egg scenario: does substance abuse lead to mental illness or does addiction arise out a person’s need to self-medicate in order to calm his inner demons? The answer is a little bit of both.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) notes nearly eight million Americans had co-occurring disorders in 2014. An individual who consistently abuses substances, particularly cocaine, methamphetamines and crystal meth, can develop drug-induced psychoses. Conversely, an individual with schizophrenia will abuse alcohol or other substances to find relief from voices, hallucinations and other symptoms of the disorder. Dual diagnosis can be the epitome of a vicious circle.

Sovereign Health breaks this cycle by treating the patient in total. It’s no secret mental health issues and substance use disorders can be insidiously intertwined. Our intake assessment ensures no condition goes undiagnosed. Our Los Angeles treatment center clinicians are trained in recognizing and diagnosing co-occurring conditions.

 Treatment

We offer a multitude of treatment modalities at our Los Angeles treatment center, including both evidence-based and alternative therapies such as:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), also called “talk therapy”
  • Individual, group and family therapy provides patients with varying perspectives on their behavior and relationships
  • Rock to Recovery. Musicians in recovery bring all the equipment needed for Sovereign patients to lay down some wicked tunes. Created by former Korn guitarist, Wesley Geer, Rock to Recovery now records over 200 songs a month in locations from San Diego to Malibu to Las Vegas.
  • Yoga. This ancient form of exercise and meditation tones the body and frees the mind.
  • Equine therapy. Caring for and interacting with horses provides a remarkably therapeutic experience for patients through responsibility, nonverbal communication, patience and empathy.
  • Continuing care to provide recovery management after the patient graduates.
