The first step in the admissions process is making contact. This can be one of hardest and yet most rewarding calls you will make in your life. If you or someone you love has a substance abuse problem, mental health issue or both, the staff at Sovereign Health’s Los Angeles treatment center can help.

Preadmission assessment

The easiest way to begin the admissions process is to contact our 24/7 helpline. One of our admissions specialists will answer all your questions. When you or your loved one is satisfied Sovereign Health is the answer, our specialist will conduct an assessment. During this process, we will ask about your health history, both physical and mental. This assessment provides our clinicians a baseline for when they conduct a more thorough assessment during intake. The telephone assessment typically lasts 30 minutes.

We also provide in-person assessments at our Los Angeles treatment center. No appointment is necessary. Our only goal is to provide treatment for individuals who want it.

The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 guarantees benefits for behavioral treatment be equal to benefits for physical health treatment. All major health insurance plans include behavioral health treatment. Our admissions specialists will answer any questions related to finances.

Naturally, Sovereign Health accepts private pay. To ensure everyone who wants treatment receives it, we have partnered with My Treatment Lender. This is a company that specializes in securing loans for treatment. My Treatment Lender shops your loan with hundreds of lenders nationwide to ensure you get the best deal.

Scheduling the intake

The next step is to schedule the intake appointment. All that is left is to arrange when you or your loved one will begin treatment. It is important to ask questions – as many as you need to feel comfortable. We understand this can be a frightening time in anyone’s life. Our admissions specialists are here to make this process as transparent and comfortable as possible.

Depending on the time of year, our staff will recommend what clothing to bring. For questions about what is permitted to bring to treatment, please see our What to Bring page.

When you or your loved one arrive for intake, our intake coordinators conduct take you on a tour of the facility (some areas are off-limits due to patient confidentiality). When we have answered all your questions, the next step is the intake assessment. At this point, family and visitors depart and our clinicians begin their assessment of the patient. This is the first stage in treatment.
