Physical Signs and Symptoms

  • Reddening of the white area in the eyes, dilated or constricted or pupils
  • Runny Nose, droopy or watery eyes
  • Difficulty breathing, shallow or increased respiration
  • Excessive sweating, hot or cold flushes
  • Headaches, stomach cramps, aches or pains in other parts of the body
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
  • Little or no appetite resulting in weight loss
  • Excessive yawning, appears sleepy or drowsy or decreased sleep
  • Tremors, slurred speech, unsteady gait or impaired motor coordination
  • Unusual smell on the body or clothes and/ or foul smelling breath,
  • Deterioration of physical appearance

Psychological Signs and Symptoms

  • Changes in personality which are difficult to explain
  • Excessively stimulated, energetic or attentive at times or alternatively reduced concentration and motivation, lethargy
  • Bouts of restlessness, agitation, irritability or hostility
  • Anxiety, panic or paranoia for no obvious reason
  • Periods of depression, euphoria or apathy
  • Impaired control, judgment and memory
  • Appears confused at times

Behavioral Signs

  • Neglect of personal grooming
  • Neglecting important responsibilities at home or at work
  • Deterioration in performance at work or school
  • Skipping work or school
  • Frequently arguing or fighting and being in trouble at home, work or with the law.
  • Asking for money, borrowing or stealing money,
  • Being very secretive (about what they are doing, who they are going to meet, where they are going, etc.)
  • Sudden change in friend circle, places they hang out at, leisure activities they enjoyed
