Although Suboxone® is typically used to treat dependence to opiates such as Heroin, Oxycodone, Morphine, Vicodin®, and Codeine, it is often abused and can lead to addiction. Suboxone is meant to be dissolved under the tongue, but can also be chewed or injected.
Like other opiate addictions, Suboxone® addiction usually starts with an increase in tolerance, followed by abuse, and eventual dependence. Symptoms of addiction are fundamentally the same as with other opioid drugs. Side effects may include headache, difficulty sleeping, nausea, sweating, stomach cramps and/or constipation. Abuse is particularly dangerous in pregnancy, as Suboxone® can be harmful to the unborn child.
Entering rehab is a frightening but life changing experience. At Sovereign Health of California, we have a treatment team of the highest standard of qualification – many of whom have had their own journey to recovery.
Withdrawal symptoms can be severe and last for weeks. Both current and former patients have described Suboxone® withdrawal as "terrible" and openly said that no one should enter a program using this drug. Withdrawal symptoms can commence as little as 6 hours after cessation. They include, but are not limited to:
In order for recovery to be successful, it is important to treat both addiction itself and any underlying issues. At Sovereign Health of California, our highly qualified staff boasts a plentitude of experience in dual diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring disorders.
