Narcotics Anonymous

Drug Addiction Education

As its name implies, Narcotics Anonymous is a program similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, where individuals can freely discuss their battles with drug abuse and/or addiction. 'NA' was started in Los Angeles and is member run. Its founders describe it as:

"a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We meet regularly to help each other stay clean … We are not interested in what or how much you used … but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help."

NA meetings provide effective support for individuals struggling with drug addiction, like a methamphetamine addiction. Sovereigh Health of California provides transportation to meetings throughout rehab.

NA meetings are similar to AA meetings. Members are encouraged to share their experiences in rehab and the challenges they face to maintain long-term recovery. The relationship amongst members is symbiotic; they provide each other with much-needed support and by talking come to better understand their own problems, making drug addiction rehabilitation more effective. The only criteria for membership is a willingness to stop using and the wish to achieve a long-term, successful recovery.

NA membership is growing, with meetings now being held in 127 countries. The majority of members are between 30 and 50 years old. However, age is unimportant and all are welcome.
