Drug Addiction Education

Drug Addiction Education is an important part of our services here at Sovereign Health of California.

If you’re like so many young people who become involved with drug and alcohol abuse, you may find that you’ve fallen behind in your education goals. Addiction might be causing you to place less emphasis upon things like goals in general, affecting your willingness and capacity to learn and retain information while you’re using or recovering from drug use.

Consequences of drug use include short-term memory loss and short attention span. So many young users fall behind in classes and tend ultimately to quit school altogether. Interestingly enough, most chemically dependent people are highly adaptable, with a good capacity for learning and change. But when they fail to meet educational goals they lose self esteem because they know they can do better.

Through our education program, we directly address the educational needs of people recovering from alcohol or drug addiction. Our EDU program is an educational program developed in conjunction with Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California. Participants enroll at an accredited college and work towards one of several goals: starting work towards a major, graduating high school or receiving a GED.

By enrolling in the EDU program, you (or the friend or relative you help enroll) find yourself beginning a life journey you may not have believed possible in the recent past. Your self-esteem gets a boost and the healing process is enhanced as you and your peers support and challenge each other while you move in similar directions.

Those who enroll in the EDU program are provided with books and learning materials, as well as transportation to classes. After completion of classes, participants may continue on at Saddleback or transfer units to another college.
